The Importance of Good Attendance

At Congerstone Primary School, we believe that every day counts. Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in helping children achieve their full potential, both academically and socially.

When children attend school every day, they benefit from consistent learning, build strong relationships with their classmates and teachers, and develop positive routines that support their wellbeing and confidence. Even a small amount of missed learning time can have a significant impact. Lessons build upon previous knowledge, and frequent absences can make it harder for children to keep up with their peers, affecting their progress and self-esteem.

To put this into perspective, a child who misses just one day of school every fortnight loses around four weeks of learning across the academic year. Over time, these missed opportunities can add up and make a real difference to educational outcomes.

We recognise that children may occasionally need time away from school due to illness or exceptional circumstances. However, we ask families to support us in ensuring that children attend school regularly and arrive on time each day. By working together, we can give every child the best possible chance to succeed, flourish, and enjoy their learning journey.

Every day in school really does make a difference.
