School Dog

Meet Wilf

A very special member of the Congerstone Primary School staff

Hello everyone – I’m Wilf! I am delighted to be part of the team at Congerstone Primary School. I may have four paws, but I am a real member of staff: I follow our school rule, Be Kind, and I even have my own uniform.

My role in school

I am here to bring a calm, friendly presence to school life. Spending time with a school dog can help children feel settled, support emotional wellbeing and encourage a sense of belonging. Dogs can also help children build confidence and responsibility, and may make activities such as reading and writing feel more relaxed and enjoyable. Of course, every child is different, so my time with pupils will always be thoughtful and appropriate.

Looking after everyone

First and foremost, I am a much-loved family pet. Whenever I am in school, I am always with my owner and there is a risk assessment in place. My wellbeing matters too, so I am given regular opportunities to step away from the busy school day, enjoy quiet breaks and have plenty of rest. This careful approach helps to protect pupils, staff and me.

I feel very lucky to have joined Congerstone, and everyone here feels very lucky to have me. I am looking forward to helping our children feel happy, confident and connected – one kind paw at a time.
